Jianan Zhang

Jianan Zhang is an Assistant Professor and Boya Young Fellow in the School of Electronics at Peking University. He received his B.E. degree from Tsinghua University in 2012, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2014 and 2018, respectively. He was a Senior Software Engineer in Google’s network infrastructure team from 2018 to 2023.

His research focuses on network theory and networked intelligence, with foundations in network optimization, stochastic control, and graph theory. He develops AI-native networks that integrate communication, computation, storage, and sensing to support distributed and embodied AI systems. He develops foundation models for network design and resource allocation, with applications to multi-agent embodied AI for intelligent manufacturing and smart warehouses.

He serves on the editorial board of Computer Networks. He is a co-recipient of the 2026 ACM SIGCOMM Networking Systems Award, the 2026 IEEE Communications Society Best Survey Paper Award, and the WiOpt 2024 Best Paper Award.
